Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 October 2026
This policy explains what information TrendinTech collects when you visit the site, why, and what rights you have over it. It describes what the site actually does. The short version: we collect very little, we do not sell any of it, and we do not use advertising trackers or cross-site tracking.
1. Who is responsible
TrendinTech is published and operated by Orkatek, which is the data controller for any personal data processed through the site.

2. What the site collects
Article view counts
When you open an article, your browser sends a single request to our own server that increments a counter for that article, which we use to show which stories are being read most. The counter stores only the article ID and the date; it does not store your IP address, a visitor identifier or anything else about you. To avoid double-counting, your browser notes in its own session storage which articles it has already counted. That value never leaves your browser. Known bots are excluded, and daily counts are deleted after 60 days.
Site analytics
The site uses Umami, an open-source, privacy-focused analytics tool, hosted by our operator Orkatek rather than by a third-party advertising company. It records aggregate information such as which pages are viewed, the referring site, the browser type, the device type and the country, so that we can see which coverage readers find useful. Umami does not use cookies, does not track you across other websites and does not build a profile of you. It is configured not to store full IP addresses. We see totals and trends, not individual people.
Server logs
Like almost every website, our web server keeps standard access logs: the IP address a request came from, the page requested, the time, the browser’s user-agent string and the referring page. We keep these for security and troubleshooting only. They are rotated and deleted on a short cycle, currently 14 days.
Email you send us
If you email [email protected], we receive your email address, anything you include in the message and any attachments. We use it only to deal with your message. Correspondence relating to published articles, corrections or legal matters may be kept for as long as the article is online, because it forms part of the record of how the article was produced and corrected.
3. Cookies and local storage
For ordinary visitors, TrendinTech does not set cookies. Specifically:
- There are no advertising cookies, no social media tracking pixels and no third-party analytics cookies.
- The light or dark theme switch stores your preference in your browser’s local storage under the key
tt-theme. This stays on your device and is never sent to us. - The view counter uses browser session storage, as described above. It is not a cookie and is not transmitted.
- WordPress sets login cookies only for staff accounts when they sign in to the editorial system. Readers cannot create accounts, so these cookies do not apply to you.
The site does not have comments, user registration or a newsletter at present. If we introduce any of these, this policy will be updated first to describe what data they involve.
4. What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent or trade personal information to anyone, and do not share analytics or log data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not use fingerprinting or cross-site tracking.
- We do not collect special categories of data such as health, political or financial information.
- We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, email us and we will delete it.
5. Third parties
Our hosting providers process traffic to the site on our behalf and may see connecting IP addresses, as any host does. Articles may embed content from other services, such as a video. When an embed loads, the embedding service may receive your IP address and set its own cookies under its own privacy policy. Links to other websites are outside our control and this policy does not cover them.
6. Legal basis
Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we process view counts, analytics, server logs and email correspondence on the basis of our legitimate interest in running, securing and improving the site and responding to you. We do not rely on consent, because we do not do anything that would require it.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- ask what personal data we hold about you and receive a copy;
- ask us to rectify or erase it;
- object to or restrict our processing of it;
- receive it in a portable format;
- under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), know what categories of personal information we collect and whether we sell it (we do not), and not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.
In practice, the only personal data we are likely to hold about an individual reader is email correspondence, because the view counter and analytics do not identify you. To make a request, email [email protected] with “Privacy” in the subject line. We will respond within 30 days under the GDPR or 45 days under the CCPA. If you are in the EU or UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority; in Ireland, that is the Data Protection Commission.
8. Security
The site is served over HTTPS and access to the editorial system is limited to staff accounts. We take reasonable measures to protect the small amount of data we hold, while recognising that no system is completely secure.
9. Changes
If we change how the site collects or uses data, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes, such as adding a newsletter, will be described here before they go live.
10. Contact
Questions about this policy or about your data can be sent to [email protected] or by post to Orkatek, 67 West Street, Suite 34, Brooklyn, NY 11222, United States.
