The Organic Industry Is Expanding Across The Globe

The organic industry is expanding and has a value across the globe of around $84 billion as of 2014 and figures are expected to be up to more than $130 billion by 2019. There has to be special rules and regulations for those carrying out organic farming, and certification schemes are mainly for items grown on the land, but there are more coming into place as a result of aquaculture. Although there have been requests made, there are strict guidelines as to what “organic” is.

The EU and Canada have standards and those with certificates must comply. The schemes insist that aquaculturists must ensure that as little harm as possible happens to the environment and that biodiversity is not to be altered. An example of differences with certifiers such as Soil Association based in the UK is that they do not advocate the banning of pesticides altogether, but rather that the use should be limited.

In UK shoppers spent an extra £1.73 million a week on organic products in 2015, and the steady rise of the organic market experienced in the UK mirrors a global trend of growth and widening interest in the organic sector. Via; soilassociation.org

Hatchery stocks have flexibilities when it comes to the laws, and the Canadian Organic Aquacultural Standard accepts that non-organic stock can be used if organic items are not available, while some companies such as IFOAM would demand that two-thirds of the animal’s life are spent as part of the organic system.

It is more expensive to purchase organic food although it is more expensive to produce it. The profits are going to come as more people want organic food, and certainly a food that is certified will sell much better than cheap imports.

This Mechanical Jellyfish Harvests Tons Of Energy From The Ocean

Energy from water may seem to be too good to be true, and to an extent it is. There is a lot of salt in there, and any metal used will corrode pretty quickly. It is also fierce and dangerous, but that is part of the reason why it is so important that we can harness its power. If harnessing were possible, the United States would be able to glean more than 30% of the electricity needed just from the waves along the coast.

Engineers at Oscilla Power hope to use a Wave Energy Converter and turn waves into power. The device is a float at the top and under the water is a suspended ring. The float moves as the waves do and the ring resists. It is this resistance that creates the energy.  This has been tried before, but the machines were not strong enough and also the cost meant that it was not possible to use them. The corrosion that occurs as a result of the salt renders it impossible to repair or replace machinery.

Oscilla Power’s Triton WEC™ systems will deliver an average power of more than 600kW each and will be arrayed together to form utility-scale power plants.

Oscilla believes that certain parts have caused the problems with other machines and as a result, they have not used them recently. The Triton created power by squeezing the metal alloys and due to this, there is the creation of alternating magnetic poles. It may be an easy system, but it is also a large one. At 100 feet long it is believed that 600kW will be produced by each machine. However, many will want to see the results before believing them.

New Laser Imaging System Shows the Structure of Biological Tissue and The Dynamic Activity

Scientists at Yale can now view the dynamic activity as well as the structure of the biological tissue, and this includes the blood cells moving as well as the heart beating. Multimodal imaging is benefitting greatly from the development of this new laser and researchers are impressed with the progress.

Speckle is no longer the problem that it once was, and the structural information of the laser images is not grainy. There are times when speckle can be advantageous as there is additional information carried by it and it helps biological imaging. An example of this is when blood cells are being moved, and the changes are analysed.

The image on the left shows speckle-free imaging with low-coherence illumination, producing structural images of a tadpole heart. On the right, an image of spatially-resolved speckle contrast, calculated from speckled images.

Continuous wave emission is used rather than pulsed, and the machine is compact, able to toggle between modes as a result of a semiconductor element. The journal Optica has printed the findings of the Yale team.

A tadpole was used in the experiment, and its heartbeat was imaged. Professor of Applied Physics at Yale University Hui Cao explained that the hearts structures were recorded, and so was the blood that was being pumped around. The relationship between function and structure has been described by Michael. A. Choma the co -author, and he went on to add that knowing this is vital for biology. It is never truer than when micro scale motions are being studied, and flows and motions are noted within living tissue. It is a reliable laser and combines properties in a way that was not possible before.

Drinking water: Carbon Pricing Revenues Could Close Infrastructure Access Gaps

Dr. Michael Jacob is a lead author for the study to find out the possibility of providing finance for all drinking water as soon as 2030. If just India had a carbon tax, there could be up to 115 billion US dollars a year raised and just a small amount would be needed to clean the water, and the rest could go to electricity and sanitation. If studied further, only about 4% of the raised amount would be needed for the water.

On the downside, there are many countries in Sub-Saharan Africa where the low carbon emission will not be of any benefit. This is because they have such a low level of carbon emissions there would not be a financial gain. The main hope they have is that if they start using other methods, they will start to receive funding from other countries with large industries.

Carbon Pricing Revenues Could Close Infrastructure Access Gaps
Share of carbon pricing revenues required to finance universal access to water infrastructure under domestic carbon pricing (i.e., without transfers between countries) for an average 2°C scenario. The darker the color, the higher the share, with dark purple shares exceeding 100%. White areas denote countries for which data are not available.

A variety of services were examined and alongside sanitation, electricity and water was roads and ICT. The details have just been published in the World development journal. There is an assumption made, and that is that each country will introduce the tax and have the amount increasing regularly.  It needs to be $40US per tonne by 2020 and rapid growth over the following 20 years until it reaches $175 by 2030.

Additional money raised would be used to try reducing the level of global warming down to 2 degrees. Rising oil and gas prices will cause issues, but it is clear that just throwing money at fuel will not be the answer.

Could Climate Change Help Wheat, Rice and Soybeans Grow More Efficiently?

There has been researching carried out to find a way to force crops to use water very efficiently. By 2080, it is believed that soybeans, rice, wheat, and maize will be affected thanks to an increase in carbon dioxide. Some areas will still fail, but this will be for other reasons, mainly climate change.

Plants find photosynthesis easier when there is extra carbon around. Air comes in through the leaves and water comes from the stomata. Thanks to carbon being present they stay a little more closed and less comes out. The more recent research has been carried out at the Maricopa Agricultural Centre, which is part of the University of Arizona.

Could Climate Change Help Wheat, Rice and Soybeans Grow More Efficiently?
Average yields of current rain-fed wheat areas, mostly located in higher latitudes including the US, Canada and Europe, might go up by almost 10 per cent, and consumption of water would go down a corresponding amount. Average yields of irrigated wheat, much of India and China’s production, could decline by 4 per cent.

Could Climate Change Help Wheat, Rice and Soybeans Grow More Efficiently?
It is difficult to predict how the mixture of factors caused by global warming will impact the way crops grow around the world, but a new study shows the increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere might help crops grow more in some parts, in spite of the changing climate.

Could Climate Change Help Wheat, Rice and Soybeans Grow More Efficiently?
Researchers have introduced artificially heightened levels of carbon dioxide to farm fields, and measured the results on the production of maize, soybeans, wheat and rice. Here, experimental plots at the University of Arizona’s Maricopa Agricultural Centre.

Early signs are that the efficiency of water use will be 18% for soybeans,13% maize, 27% wheat and 10% rice. This, however, will not guarantee improved growth, but in some areas of Canada, Europe, and the USA there could be a 10% increase. There are some projections that show maize could still lose out and this could mean an 8.5% drop in production.

Delphine Deryng accepts that there are a lot of factors to take into account for there to be adequate adaptations. Based at Columbia University, the environmental scientist does not accept that carbon dioxide is automatically a good thing. There have been other research programmes carried out over the years, but still there must be more data collected according to retired US Department of Agriculture researcher Bruce Kimball.

Researchers Have Found a New Way to See Right Through You

After the launch of the biggest medical imaging study in the UK, MRI images might help researchers study body organs before the emergence of a disease. This is what a group of UK-based researchers will be doing after launching the world’s biggest imaging study.

Affiliated with the UK non-profit organization, Biobank, the scientists plan to capture images of human hearts, brains, bones, and arteries during the study. The study will use 100,000 patients, and technologies like ultrasound, X-ray, and MRI.  The outcomes will be integrated with other kinds of health and lifestyle data that the group has gathered over the last decade. Then they will try to use this to understand how disease can be prevented and treated.

Researchers Have Found a New Ways to See Right Through You

Images and health data might disclose fascinating findings of the body conditions before the diagnosis of illness. If for instance, some patients used in this imaging study finally got sick with dementia, the researchers would retrieve and study brain scans and other health data that was collected before the onset of dementia.

In case they discover the particular thing that patients had in common, researchers might see the exact cause of the disease and find new treatment methods. The goal of the researchers is to read the brain scans for revelations into other diseases such as depression, stroke and Alzheimer’s. Bone scans might offer solutions for osteoporosis and how it is related to other health conditions. Comprehensive images of the heart could reveal signs of damage before the emergence of a heart attack.

Researchers Have Found a New Ways to See Right Through You

Other sorts of scans will study how body fat is distributed in comparison to the body muscle where factors like genetic indicators for a problem like obesity, lifestyle, high cholesterol and high blood pressure will be considered.  Over the years, the images of the brain or the heart have consistently been similar. However, this UK-based study uses ten thousand times more participants than most believable studies that use one hundred attendees. Hence, the study will offer more conclusive, credible and reliable outcomes.

The research will begin with eight thousand patients at the Biobank headquarters, Stockport, close to Manchester in northwest England, UK. Then it will extend to the south and Newcastle in the coming year.

The Technology Behind The Movie Deadpool

Deadpool; an antihero appeared in Marvel Comics series, when he made his first appearance in the comic books, the character was depicted as a supervillain. But later the character evolved into a more recognizable antiheroic persona. He is one of the last characters from Marvel Universe that has become a movie. Probably, the company wasn’t believed the movie too much; they didn’t spend too much money for making the Deadpool movie. Film’s budget was $58 million if you considering the other Marvel movies that have average $300 million dollar budget, this is a very small amount. But the movie did a great job with the earning $760 million dollars, is similar to the movies like;  Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy and, these two movies cost almost $170 million dollars to make.

When the film was rated as ” R ” ( R (Restricted) – Under 17 Requires Accompanying Parent Or Adult Guardian. ), many critics thought the movie will sink in the box office, but the Ryan Reynolds excellent performance and this antihero’s careless, funny personality get the people. Personally, I didn’t know this character even exist in Marvel Universe as many other who doesn’t familiar with America’s comic book culture, but the Deadpool get popular in a short time between almost everyone.

The success of this movie is not only about the characters performance, but there was also a team who put their ” maximum effort ” to make the CGI effects and the suit which requires serious amounts engineering. The mask which looks like a fabric sock especially needed some serious work. Please watch the video learn more about the Mask of Deadpool.

This Drone Can Locate Buried Landmines and Explosive Remnants of War

Landmines are still claiming the lives or limbs of around ten people each day. Unless changes are made to the technology used to remove mines, it will take more than 1000 years to clear them all away and would cost about $30 billion. It is made an even more challenging job when considering the location of many of them. They are in developing countries still beset by war.

Now thanks to a team of British scientists there is a drone that could do the job a lot cheaper and also a lot more quickly. British charity Find A Better Way and the University of Bristol are working together on the scheme, and the drone which can cover large areas is both fast and safe to use.

The Drone Can Locate Buried Landmines and Explosive Remnants of War.

Hyperspectral imaging techniques are used to pick up on slight irregularities that appear in the vegetation. When there is a landmine, it will affect the way the things above it grows and makes it easier to find out where they have been planted.

Project leader Dr. John Day explained that while the naked eye may not be able to detect how healthy a plant is thanks to infrared technology, it is possible. Chemicals leak into the soil and plants develop abnormalities. The infrared is also capable of detecting man-made objects. Even items that have not been buried can be picked up, and the photographs that the drones take will be used to produce maps of danger zones, therefore alerting ground troops to the dangers.

War Dragons: Satisfy Your Desire To Be Blood Of The Dragon

With HBO’s Game Of Thrones having returned for a sixth season, pop culture fans all over the country are once again diving headfirst into Westerosi lore. Jon Snow fanatics are insisting their favorite character will find a way to rise from the dead, various theories are flying back and forth across the Internet, and discussion about the show has become such a big deal that HBO introduced this show as a sort of roundtable recap to follow each new episode. But in addition to all this, the return of Game Of Thrones evokes one more feeling in all of us: secretly, we all just want to be the blood of the dragon.

War Dragons: Satisfy Your Desire To Be Blood Of The Dragon

Depending on how you feel about the show you may have grown a little tired of the Daenerys narrative, and where the show is now her young dragons aren’t of too much use to do. But if you watched the end of season five (spoiler alert), you saw Daenerys in a certain death scenario only to be saved by a fire-breathing monstrosity who flew into a gladiator arena, did some major damage, and flew off with her to a peaceful grassy knoll.

Unfortunately – and I hope I’m not the first to say it to you – this won’t happen to any of us in real life. Dragons aren’t real, and if they were you probably couldn’t tame them and fly them and turn them into super soldiers to do your bidding. But this is why we have video games, is it not?

I’ve been a little surprised, actually, at the lack of focus on video game dragons in the aftermath of Game Of Thrones’s rise to the top of the TV world. There are multiple Game Of Thrones-based games out there, but none put much (if any) emphasis on the dragons, and outside of these titles, nothing really addresses the fantasies from the show. For some time, a slot game here was perhaps the closest thing to a mainstream, modern game based on dragons. Called Dragon Kingdom, it’s simply a casino arcade game that embraces the mythology of dragons for artistic purposes. Images of different dragons and burning icons are certainly fun to look at, and make for great improvements on standard slot reel designs, but it won’t exactly make you feel like the blood of the dragon.

War Dragons: Satisfy Your Desire To Be Blood Of The Dragon

But last year, a mobile game emerged that might be the closest thing you can find to, shall we say, the Daenerys experience. And though it was largely overlooked upon its release, the app – War Dragons, by Pocket Gems, Inc. – is actually one of the better mobile gaming experiences to come out in the last few years.

Built as a real-time strategy game with co-op and versus multiplayer elements, it’s essentially a dragon RPG melded with a better-looking Clash Of Clans. Your task is simply to collect, train, and improve dragons, with over 100 different breeds, so to speak, available (as well as one particularly deadly monster named Khrysos). Not only do you gather a team of dragons, but you also design an island fortress with human defenses to guard them as you look to ascend to the crown, either on your own or alongside other players in a guild. Along the way you’re always collecting and improving, and can even win treasures and new dragon eggs as achievements.

It’s not related at all to Game Of Thrones, but it’s about as good a simulation as you’ll find of being a “dragon lord,” or as the show puts it, the blood of the dragon. That’s pretty appealing in and of itself, but intelligent game design, engaging multiplayer options, and absolutely gorgeous graphics push War Dragons over the edge. This is a very satisfying mobile gaming experience.

SpaceX ‘City on Mars’ Will Be Announced in Mexico

After the historic landing of the Falcon 9 rocket, on SpaceX’s independent drone ship, last Friday, Elon Musk, the CEO, made a rare appearance at Kennedy Space Center (NASA’S). Then he reported to the media of his plans to occupy Mars.

During the end of the post-launch press conference, Elon Musk said that he would be talking at the International Aeronautical Congress, IAC, in Guadalajara, Mexico this September. This is also when Musk will announce what is highly anticipated. When asked by the Observer, about the much-awaited announcement at the IAC venue, Musk simply said that it will be about building a city on Mars.

His statement cannot be ignored seeing that in just a few weeks he just pre-sold more than 276,000 Telsa Model 3 electrical cars, landed a fourteen-storey high rocket on a shaky ship in the sea, and made a spacecraft that connects with the International Space Station.

SpaceX ‘City on Mars’ Will Be Announced in Mexico

Elon thinks that the only way to living on different planets is to make renewable rockets. In a statement through SpaceX website, Musk confirmed that new rockets will modernize access to space. At a Venture Forum held in Hong Kong earlier this year, Musk revealed his vision about Mars and disclosed his hopes to demonstrate SpaceX’s project at the IAC forum in Mexico.

Currently, the Dragon cargo spacecraft is being unloaded at NASA’s ISS. Although the ISS mission was put off last year due to failure, there is hope that SpaceX’s plans about Mars will succeed because they have successfully docked the initial stage of their Falcon 9 rocket on sea and land. On many occasions, Elon Musk has expressed his goal to send people to Mars, the red planet, in the middle of 2020’s. Until September this year, however, Musk has made nothing official.
