A new project has been launched on Kickstarter that could be the answer to many people’s problems in the workshop. Wazer is a new desktop cutter that uses no sharp implements, but simply high-pressure water to get a precision cut just as good as any laser. The team behind Wazer were initially looking for just $100,000 investment, but have already surpassed that by miles and are now headed towards $900,000!
Co-founder of Wazer, Nisan Lerea advised, “Right now, there are a lot of great desktop tools, but they’re limited regarding what they can cut. The most widely used parallel to what we’re offering would be a desktop laser cutter, which works similarly – only using lasers instead of water. The problem with a desktop laser cutter is that is can only cut through soft materials, such as wood and plastic. We’ve created a tool that can cut through virtually any material: steel, titanium, aluminum, stone, ceramic tiles, glass, a whole variety.”
Although waterjet cutting is not a new idea, it has only really ever been used for commercial purposes as generally the machines tend to cost around $100,000 and take up the entire room. But, the Wazer is set to change all of that. The unit is currently being marketed for $4,000 on Kickstarter, so if you do want to get your hands on this amazing cutting device, head there now and secure yours.
