FireFighter Drones For New York City are On The Way

Not everyone agrees with the use of drones, especially when they’re used in some unsavory projects, but they can also be used in many brilliant ways, including those that are due to hit the streets of New York City as firefighting drones. They are the perfect solution for fighting fires as can fly to the exact location and unleash water directly where it’s needed, without the chance of any real person being injured.

These drones have been specifically designed for the purpose of fighting fires and cost around $85,000 each. However, they are worth every penny. The drones are capable of capturing both standard video images and infrared images and can give firefighters a much clearer picture of what type of fire they are dealing with and how to best tackle it.

But, there are still a few hurdles to get over before the drones can be used for commercial purposes. One of the major problems is that much of the built-up part of the city’s airspace is off-limits to unmanned flying vehicles. However, all is not lost as the city has agreed to deal with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that allows the tactical unit to contact them on each occasion to request clearance for the drone, which should take no longer than 15 minutes in total, allowing them to get to work.

We will see much more of drones very soon, and not just within fire departments. Some other industries are looking to use drones as part of their everyday work, including in movie production, agriculture, and real estate. So look out the next time you are out as you never know where they might turn up next!
