Do You Want To Buy a 3D Printer? Here Are Some Tips to Get You Started

Personally, I would say yes, 3D printing is a pretty amazing technology that I can not imagine the world without, but there is one thing to be aware of. It is still very a new technology and has a long way to go before it’s anywhere near perfected. Many businesses are making a killing by utilizing 3D printers, but in terms of making your stuff at home with one, you may want to wait a little while longer.

But don’t let that get you down. If you do want to get into 3D printing, there are other ways you can do it without having to pay for a substandard 3D printer. Some services will do the printing for you. Take 3D Hubs for example. This service enables you to connect to a network of 3D printer owners in the area who allow you to use their equipment. With this option, you can literally go and pick up your printing rather than have to wait for it to be delivered. Shapeways is another company that will do your printing for you, and one of their best selling points is that they offer a massive range of materials to choose from. They also allow you to sell your own designs too! Another area to check out is the local library or university to see what they can offer regarding 3D printing facilities.

Another reason why it’s not so bad to hold off buying a 3D printer for the moment is that they’re still not the easiest to use to design your product and printing is still a relatively lengthy process with most prints taking anywhere from just under sixty minutes to complete to some taking several hours. And while it’s fun to watch for a few minutes, it soon becomes very monotonous and rather like watching paint dry. But, if none of that is enough to deter you and you still want your very own 3D printer, the best advice I can give is to get one that has a heated bed that will help your prints stay stuck down, and ultimately save you a lot of time and wasted effort
