Over the past few months, startup Lucid Motors has been slowly introducing itself to the market. Previously named Atieva and owned by former Tesla Model S chief engineer, Lucid Motors are looking to give everyone in the electric vehicle market a run for their money.
The company’s first product to hit the roads is a premium sedan car that will be competing with the likes of the Mercedes S-Class and the BMW 7-Series. Named the Atvus, it’s an all-electric premium sedan with an 87 kWh battery pack attached to it. Although this may not sound much in principle, the vehicle produces more than 900 horsepower output. This is made capable through its electric powertrain that was developed in the Lucid Edna. But, what’s, even more, is that with a dual motor powertrain the Atvus has an output of a monstrous 1000 horsepower.

This is a performance level that could happily take on the likes of Tesla’s Model S, no problem. And, to add to that the company is also looking to have a large cargo space available while still keeping a small exterior shape. Lucid Motors are based in the U.S. but do have the financial backing of various Chinese investors, one of which is LeEco. They are currently searching for a location to build a factory that will produce around 20,000 units in year one, then 130,000 annually after that. But, for now, let’s watch out for the Atvus, which will come to market in 2018 and hopefully bring a new trendy brand to light.
