Say Goodbye to Facebook Trending Jobs

Once upon a time at Facebook employed writers, aptly named “Content Curators” to add the news to the social networking site for its viewers to keep up to date with current issues. However, just recently they have all been told they no longer have jobs and that their previous roles have now been taken over by automated software.  Although some employees within the organization said the news was sudden and unexpected, others have stated that they saw it coming.

We will see this more as a society where artificial intelligence and automated machines will be taking over many roles as we know them today, including manufacturing and service roles, and even doctors and therapists. It won’t be too far in the future where we will see ourselves working with these forms.  With robots now present in factories, hotels, restaurants and many other establishments, it’s no real surprise that they are beginning to take over the white collar roles as well.

The role of ‘trending’ started on Facebook in 2014 as a means “to help people discover interesting and relevant conversations happening on Facebook, about breaking news and events from around the world,” stated the company in a recent press release.  The move to using automated technology is no real surprise, and the company stated that by doing this they would be able to increase accessibility and scale Trending to cover more topics and become available to more people around the globe at the same time.  Some editing staff will remain employees to oversee operations and ensure that news topics are still real-world events.
