Pornographic video sharing website, Pornhub has now opened its virtual doors even wider to welcome in a whole new plethora of customers, starting with the vision impaired audience. Already having been in existence since 2007, Pornhub felt that it was time to expand their offerings and created 50 videos specially designed for the visually impaired.
Worldwide, around 285 million people are vision impaired, and they do not always have the same opportunities as others, including when it comes to the entertainment business. With the help of Pornhub, they are looking to make their services accessible to all and have thought of a way in which they can start to help part of the population is to create porn that is suitable for those with vision problems.
The porn site is calling this new part of their collection the described video section, and each video comes with a descriptive narration that allows all users to enjoy the scenes. The narration will not record over the already present dialogue, but will overlay it making the narrative more prominent but having the original script as an undertone. Each narrative includes details about how the shots look, where the actors are situated, what people are wearing and so much more to give a thorough description of the scene.
Pornhub are not the only company making waves in the way of vision impaired aids, and Facebook, Twitter, and Netflix are also jumping on board with adding audio descriptions or image captioning to their repertoire, so watch this space.
