There are many different opportunities that have arisen with the invention of self-driving cars. The possibilities could include transportation for many commuters throughout cities on a global scale. One of the newest projects that are hoped to be completed by the year 2018 involves an entire fleet of taxis that will be self-driven. This fleet will be in use on the island Singapore. The project is being led by nuTonomy and has been an interest of the MIT robotics lab. There was an experiment involving self-driving golf carts that allowed the MIT group to study how this endeavor might play out. This study was led by Emilio Frazzoli. The research that has played a part in this project has been in play for over ten years. The other mind behind the research is Karl Lagnemma. It is important to acknowledge how research can lead
There are different levels independence when it comes to these types of vehicles. A taxi service will be a level 4. Most in play right now are level 3. These cars have to be able to keep a human passenger safe and to anticipate the actions of the rest of the driving population. This taxi plan has to place an emphasis on the extreme safety of both the car and the cars of others. Human life is present in both. Many self- driving cars are not carrying passengers.
The man that has come up with this program is someone that has worked in an automobile industry since his college years. Lagnemma has a close relationship with the business of automobiles and is a natural at considering what is needed for success. This is one reason he was such a success at MIT.There are many details to work out with this taxi service. The cars will be controlled and dispatched remotely, so the software and must be impeccable. People should be able to enter and exit the cars without concern for their safety. The glitches must be worked out in a satisfactory manner before the service can be made and available to the public.
