Hydrostor is a system that contains a big compress air balloon under the deep of Lake Ontario. Toronto doesn’t need any boost on regular days, it power source is enough for the city, the system only required to be used when something go wrong, and city grid system needs some -extra boost. It is like a jump start batteries, these under Lake compress balloons can store one megawatt of power.
–
These balloons are stay 1.5 miles out into the lake. First the plant that is on the land compress high-pressure air to the balloons, and when the boost needed they release the compressed air back to the system and that gives a one-megawatt boost to the electric grid. This sturdy nylon balloon is designed to use when some ice-storms or super-peak days hit The city of Toronto.
–
So why is the reason to store compress air under water, not in a tank. The advantage of going underwater is to equalize the pressure outside and inside of the nylon balloons; that create easily managed safe space. Hydrostor can use almost anywhere, where is water is deep enough. Hydrostar also some another ongoing project off the coast of Aruba.
–
The project is very clean and installable almost anywhere in the world. Boosting station’s ideal working standard is 200 meters deep and 2.4 miles of shore. The best advantage of this system is, it doesn’t affect by any climate changes and the electric grid can always a reliable source of backup power whenever it needs.
