Tesla building a massive factory to build lithium-ion batteries, they spent $5 billion for this factory which located in Nevada. The company will start producing in 2016, will reach full capacity in 2017 and able to produce 500.000 batteries a year by the end of the decade. We can see that company is pretty optimistic about their batteries future, they are investing too much money in this area.
Elon Musk said; “At this point we have quite a good understanding of all the battery technologies in the world,”. Now the company is tracking producers which make batteries and giving them rates from one to five, they are planning to work with the businesses who took the five point, but still no five points but some threes.
Tesla is the biggest consumer of lithium-ion batteries, their batteries give the longest range to the cars, but they cost a lot. And if Tesla wants to be alive in the future they need to lower the cost of the batteries and new giant battery factory build for this purpose, just think about Ford at its first years, if Henry Ford was not able to manage the mass production, Ford might not be a big company as today. Mass production is the key for Tesla to lower the prices, also their future Chinese factory might help this also not because of only the low worker cost, also there are too many technology companies located in China, it will give Tesla’s factory to reach the resources they need much cheaper cost.
