There are lots of luxury yachts out there on the waters – some of which are worth millions. However, there aren’t many that are like the SoelCat 12. This luxury boat is due to take the industry by storm as it demonstrates how to travel up to six knots using only energy harvested by its own solar panels.
The firm creating these yachts is Dutch founded Soel Yachts, and people are catching on quickly to this fantastic idea. Set to debut later this year for a cool $560,000 each, the SoelCat12 is technically a solar-electric catamaran that offers luxury and eco-friendliness all in one machine. It can offer total sustainability in terms of being powered by renewable energy and will turn heads while doing so.
SoelCat 12 can fit up to 24 people on board at once and is a length of just 39 feet. The way it’s been designed allows it to travel at speeds between six and fifteen knots where it uses the solar energy during the day and at higher speeds gets a boost from two 60kWh lithium batteries that are onboard.
With a solar-panelled roof and two slim hulls to help with easy navigation the SoelCat is an ideal boat for saltwater use and could be used for both tourist and private ventures (for those with enough cash, anyway). Another great feature of this boat is that the deck is fully customizable from various layouts and functions to fully equipped bars with matching furniture. It’s a boat that looks great but is not for the faint hearted and those with little dosh, but if you do win the lottery anytime soon, then maybe one of these are for you.
