Sony’s Second E-Paper Watch is about to Take Japan by Storm

Following their success with the first FES watch that was released in 2015, Sony decided to take another hit at the market with a second FES Watch. This new development is named the FES Watch U and features scratch-resistant sapphire glass and if you upgrade to the premium model you also get a stronger surface coating.  However, these extra features don’t come cheap. Where the first FES watch was only $242, the new model starts at $299.

You may be wondering what all the hype is about.  If you are not already in the know, the FES Watch is made out of e-paper and has the ability to change its appearance by a simple gesture of the user.  By pairing it up with a smartphone app, it can be customized instantly to go with any outfit the user is wearing or to what mood they are in.  The watch comes with up to three weeks of battery life before needing to charge and is waterproof too.

For the moment, though, Sony are only looking to sell the new FES Watch U in Japan, to the disappointment of many fans of the previous model.  They are looking to have them delivered to the first batch of customers by April 2017 as long as their crowdfund target is met by October. If the watch does sell well in Japan, then it may become available to the rest of the world, but for the moment it will remain available for Japanese backers only.
