Chatbot Lawyer Now Helps Fight Homelessness

Not too long ago, British-born Joshua Browder created a robot that has now helped more than 170,000 unlawful parking tickets get overturned, and now he is out to help the world again with his new homelessness helper bot.  This robot has been designed to help homeless people by providing them with basic legal advice.  This will include helping the homeless to draft letters to the council to apply for emergency housing.

The way it will work is the robot will ask the homeless person a range of relevant questions such as, “Do you have a legal right to live here?” and “Are you or someone you live with pregnant?”  This will allow the bot to devise the best course of action for that individual to take in solving their homelessness issue.  The bot also has the ability to assist in writing letters to the council to apply for housing.  In doing this, it can also take into consideration personal circumstances such as mental illness and then tailor the letter to be personal to them.

With Browder’s previous project being such a huge success, it is no surprise that this one is already heading in the same direction with almost every local government in the UK already having signed up to the website.  His DoNotPay robot lawyer has a success rate of around 64 percent as has already overturned over £3 million in illegal parking fines.  Although the original bot was only a project that started out as a bit of fun, it quickly evolved into something much greater, and it can now also help people claim money back for delayed flights and trains and PPI.  The 19-year old programmer does not plan on stopping there either.  His next project intends to focus more on immigration and more specifically in helping Syrian refugees within the U.K.
