The most influential energy lobby group in Britain has decided to embrace the move to build a low-carbon economy. This is seen as a very significant decision.

Although being destabilized and victimized by powerful critics in the Conservatory Party, the Department of Energy and Climate Change and Treasury, the group’s motive gives the green agenda a big push forward and a new perspective.

Ever since Tories started to head the energy issue in the spring of last year, there has been a constant push for green power subsidies, where end user’s affordability is given as an excuse.

Lawrence Slade (Energy UK head) has been commenting loosely too, and has also created Pathways to 2030, a critical report on how to stop using a few fossil fuels and reducing renewable energy demand.

But, as expected, these are just good points noted on a page and did not prompt industry players to create the desperately needed power stations. In fact, Centrica, related to British Gas, said that it had no investments in brand new factories.

But why is it that not all Slade members are in full support of Centrica’s statement of intent?  Why the change of attitude now?

It is perhaps because of a number of factors, including the Paris Climate Change conference talks, new heads such as Lawrence Slade who took power from Angela Knight, a conservative minister, and the new boss of Centrica, and perhaps recognizing that Energy UK has been opposing the low carbon discussion for a long time now.
