It’s time that is worth celebrating for Chevrolet as it starts its epic, but hopefully very profitable, journey with its electric model, the Bolt. Not only will the Bolt be Chevy’s first attempt at a mainstream electric car, but it’s also really the first decent attempt from anyone. Although Tesla has obviously cornered the market for the luxury electric car, who is there for the rest of guys? Chrysler, that’s who.
The Chevy Bolt may not grab the attention of everyone straight away, and estimates suggest that only 30,000 will be sold in their first year of being released, which is a mere drop in the ocean compared to the 400,000 Tesla Model 3’s that are about to be produced. But, it’s still early days for Chevy, and they can’t go jumping in too quickly for they may just get burned.
But, the release of the Bolt may well start the ball rolling for many other auto manufacturers that are toying with the electric car idea. You have the BMW i3 already on offer but at a cost. Or, the more affordable option would be the Nissan Leaf, but with its limited range capability, is it worth it?
This new electric model from Chevy will cost you less to buy than the average new car in the United States toady and has a comfortable range of over 235 miles per charge. It may not be quite ready to take on the likes of Tesla just yet, but if the Bolt goes well, then who knows.
