A World’s First in Energy Storage With KEMWATT’s Organic Redox Flow Battery

Celebrations are being had in France by the team at KEMWATT as they achieve a world’s first in the world of energy storage. Their new development, the Organic Redox Flow Battery, is the very first of its kind in that it can effectively store electricity from renewable energy sources and has the ability to support both smart and microgrids. It may have taken two years to piece together, but now that it’s here, it could pave the way for affordable renewable energy storage systems of the future.

KEMWATT were founded in Rennes, France in 2014 and specialize in the designing and development of Redox Flow Batteries. There are two venture capitalists that support the company, and they are Go Capital and Emertec. This is in addition to private investors and the SATT Quest-Valorisation. With their batteries, KEMWATT is hoping to “accelerate the development and the adoption of renewable energy around the world,” as stated by CEO, Francois Huber.

The great thing about Redox Flow Batteries is that they can store several hours of energy at night from the wind or during the day from solar. They combine and capture all the great renewable energy sources there are available at the time to get the best out of all of them. The batteries are durable and require very little maintenance and will eventually be integrated into both the US and the EU smart-grid systems where they will assist in powering microgrids.
