There is no stopping the emergence of these electric batteries that are continuously appearing within the automotive industry. They are constantly improving, and now Nissan has demonstrated an alternative use for lithium-ion batteries that involves a concept rescue vehicle called the Nissan Navara EnGuard, and while it doesn’t have an electric powertrain, it is fitted with two of these battery packs.
These special battery packs are charged by the truck’s diesel engine and allows the use of power tools and communication devices for remote area rescue workers. The other fabulous thing about these two battery packs is that they are portable and can be removed easily for charging purposes. The battery modules themselves share the same design as that of the Nissan Leaf electric vehicle and include two 220V AC sockets and three USB ports.
Along with the battery packs, the Nissan Navara EnGuard also features enough room on the bed for two fiberglass trays that are fitted with safety equipment such as ropes, radios, an axe, and a first aid kit. And, moving with the times, it comes with its very own DJI Phantom 4 drone too. It’s still very much a concept vehicle at the moment but has been based on the current Navara, which is a very good selling vehicle in its own right. The team have stuck with the same 2.3-liter engine with a seven-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive but gave it an upgraded suspension to be able to cope with tougher terrains. It may just be a concept, but it’s Nissan’s way of showing the world that electric batteries aren’t just for urban cars.
