A recent race has just been completed that saw Tesla’s new Model S P100D annihilate the $200,000 Lamborghini Hurracan in a 0-60mph race. This seven seater sedan may have just changed the world of cars as we know it as videos show the car steaming ahead of one of the best sports cars on the planet. And, with the Model S P100D looking to cost around $60,000 less than the Lambo, and being electric, there may be many people seriously considering jumping ship.
The DragTimes race saw both the 2-seater Hurracan and the 7-seater Model S set off at lightening speeds at the start of the race, but it wasn’t long before Tesla had the upper hand, and the Lamborghini was trailing behind. The Model S held on up until speeds of over 100mph, but then the Lamborghini finally caught up and overtook after around 10 seconds.
Tesla fans will be pleased to know that the 7-seater sedan is capable of doing 0-60mph in just 2.5 seconds. That is fast by anyone’s standards (including Lamborghini’s). At the release of the Model S P100D, Elon Musk spoke out and said, “For the first time, the fastest accelerating production car in the world is an electric car. I think this sends a great message to the public about the future of transportation.”
It also seems that Bugatti is also joining in on the electric car race and are expected to be the next mainstream electric car to be released with the Chiron, which is rumored to do 0-60mph in around 2.4 seconds. So, Tesla, watch out or step it up as it looks like Bugatti are coming to get you!
