Solar Panels Just Got Twice as Efficient

Solar panels are a great way of harvesting free energy and save a lot of people lots of money each year. The cost of installing solar panels has dropped dramatically over the past few years. This has enabled more people than ever to install them within their home and reap the benefits that so many others are enjoying. Statistics suggest that by the end of 2016 there will be twice as many solar panels installed within American homes than that of the previous year and that the industry is now in its most prosperous decade ever.

One start-up company that may just help increase solar power use in the United States is Insolight. This company has discovered a way in which to create twice as much energy as traditional panels within the same amount of space.  The way in which this is possible is by using a thin structure that directs the sun’s rays directly to the high-performance panels.

Insolight could soon be celebrating a world record with the figures they have achieved, and the team is just awaiting validation of the prototype at the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany. The high yield was achieved through the use of a very thin, transparent optical system that directs the sun’s rays to the small surface area of the cells and has been designed in a way that captures differing wavelengths.  There is also a micro tracking system integrated that captures 100% of the sun’s rays regardless of the angle it is at.  It’s an easy to install the system that takes up tiny space too.

Although similar systems are being developed around the world, the team at Insolight seem to be the ones that are the readiest to go with their product.  They are convinced that their product will reduce the price per kWh that consumers pay. Although the initial costs may be slightly higher than the average solar panels seen today, this will be offset by the savings you will make.
