Car technology is moving just as fast as the rest of the tech world. You can now make and receive calls and texts as well as listen to the built-in navigation system in various vehicles. But, many of these features are still only seen in top end models and so a lot of the consumer market has been unable to benefit from them, until now. Sony has now developed an in-car receiver that will work in any car that is able to support both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The new receiver is called the XAV-AX100 and connects to your devices via Bluetooth, so you have no need to carry two phones or get a new audio system when you change between an Apple and an Android phone. What this means is that Android users can still hear their SMS and WhatsApp messages read aloud, dictate return messages, and use Google Maps for navigating. Whereas iPhone users will still be able to use Siri, iMessage, and Apple Maps. These great functions are of course available in addition to being able to receive calls and listen to music.

Sony’s XAV-AX100 will also include a rear camera as part of the package and feature a 6.4-inch display screen. At the cost of around $499, it is also the least expensive, aftermarket Android Auto or Apple CarPlay receiver you can buy. Although some Hondas and also a few Fords already have this type of interface in their models, if you want to upgrade your existing car, these receivers will be available this November.
