What Makes Tesla Such A Great Car?

Tesla has quickly become one of the leaders in the automotive industry through the release of its range of electric vehicles. One of the major contributing factors to Tesla’s success has been how the cars are built rather than what features they have. Because Tesla has always set out to manufacture electric vehicles, they have been designed that way from the start.  Whereas other companies have had to try and adapt current models and try and squeeze in electric components where they are not designed to be.

There are many other reasons why Tesla is such a great car. The first is its design.  Rather than build the engine around the car, Tesla takes the opposite approach and build the car around the electric powertrain and battery. Another pretty cool feature of Tesla cars is what they call the “frunk” (or front trunk). This is a storage compartment that is under the hood but is only possible because parts like the charger, power inverter, and electronic controls are all tucked away in hidden places around the car.

With Tesla Motors you don’t have to worry about a fuel tank either. The large battery pack, weighing in at around 1,200 pounds, fits snugly under the floor pan and is protected by titanium. This also helps Tesla achieve a low center of gravity that helps it stick to the road when driving along.  Even the interior with Tesla is seamless.  Nearly everything you need is featured in a center-mounted display screen with clear easy to use controls. Where normal cars have an analog or digital dials, Tesla motors have a speedometer and energy system projected onto their driver-facing screen.

There are still more reasons why Tesla’s are great cars.  Another being that there are only two movable parts in Tesla’s electric motor and no gears to worry about.  Traditional engines have around 200 movable parts in their internal combustion drivetrain, whereas Tesla has 17 in their drivetrain.  It’s also a battery-electric vehicle which makes it quite rare in itself.  The exterior does not go amiss either, offering one of the most aerodynamic designs ever for a four-door passenger vehicle.

The batteries are obviously one of Tesla’s big selling points.  Where most companies use either large flat or pouch-format lithium-ion battery cells, Tesla employs the use of a nickel-cobalt-aluminium-lithium combination which helps to achieve their high performance and long range targets.  As well as the great performance of the batteries, comes a great charging system.  Most battery-electric vehicles (BEV) use a 6.6kw charger, but Tesla has bumped theirs up to 10kw with a standard charger and 20kw with a double charger.

As well as all of these great features, Tesla also provides their customers with regular software updates for their motors.  Most are free upgrades and enhance various features within the car.  So, for all of these reasons and more, what excuses do you have now not to get a Tesla car?
