In terms of volume, Android sales soar above those of the iOS platform, with a dominating 80 percent share of the market. But, in terms of profit share, Apple has an even larger section of the market with more than a 90 percent being attributed to them. But, profit share is not enough in this industry.
One of the main reasons behind the success of Android lies in Samsung. Without them, their technology would be left with much smaller manufacturers such as Huawei. Although Apple still rules the high-end scale of the market, Samsung is known for being good, solid providers of smartphones with the reliable Android technology included as part of the package. Others like Motorola and Nexus have also employed the use of Android in their phones, none have had quite the success that Samsung has and are still miles behind them in terms of sales figures.
It seems that Samsung will hold on to that top spot for phone domination that little longer with the help of Android. They are the only other phone manufacturer to sell a similar amount of phones as Apple, and their Galaxy S7 has similar specs to the iPhone too. Although Samsung has had declining sales figures for the past two financial years, both the introduction of the S7 and the constant flow of mid and low range phone sales seems to be turning that around for them. It’s a partnership that is equal to both sides; Samsung needs Android and Android needs Samsung. Without each other, Apple would almost certainly have the chance to dominate the market.
