With the world bursting with talented designers and inventors, Kickstarter and similar websites are the perfect place to bring together the creative minds of the world with those that have money to invest in great products.  One product that has recently grabbed the attention of quite a number of people is Onak – ‘The World’s First Foldable Origami Canoe’.

This innovative new product has already got many people excited, and the team raised 156% of what they asked for in an investment.  Onak is 183 inches long by 33.5 inches wide and is a full-sized canoe that is perfect for the great outdoors.  Also, with its unique selling point being that it can fold up to the size of a suitcase, it is no surprise at how much this idea has grabbed people.  Even with its tow paddles, the Onak can be wheeled around like a suitcase and weighs less than 40 lbs.

The two founders of Onak, Otto Van De Steene, and Thomas Weyn, started the venture after need to solve their own issue of needing a canoe with them but having to travel through the city.   So, the pair set to work and after several paper origami attempts and 15 real prototypes, they finally decided that they were happy with the design.  Both the packing and unpacking of the canoe can be done in less than 15 minutes (less with practice).

It may be a little pricey compared to other canoes on the market, and you can expect to pay $1,222 for the canoe and two paddles, but it will make you stand out in the crowd.  The first batch of the Onak canoe are due to ship out to the first investors in March 2017, and hopefully will be available to the public soon after.
