Environmental Twist As Buildings Now Made From Recycled Goods

As we all strive for a better future for ourselves and our loved ones, we must now focus on maintaining a healthy environment.  We could all do a little.  Even if it is just making an extra trip to the recycle center or kitting out your home with the latest solar power technology, every little helps.  Some scientists in Australia have even managed to recycle old cigarette butts into bricks, so it just goes to show that anything is possible if we do put our minds to it.

There are several magnificent buildings throughout the world that have been created by using a little bit of creative thinking and a lot of patience.  The following are ten buildings that have been designed by thinking outside the box:

1. Earthship, Normandy: This eco-friendly creation was designed and created in New Mexico, but now have buildings all over the world including the first of its kind in Normandy.  Made entirely of natural and recycled materials, its features include a garden that runs indoors along the corridor providing fresh fruit year round, a wind turbine, a pebble rainwater tap and has a carbon emission of zero.

2. Home made of straw and timber, California: A 170-acre eco-friendly estate in Sonoma County, California.  With walls made of straw and timber and sustainable gardens strategically planted on the roof, this creation really is good on the environment.

3. Temple of a Million Bottles, Thailand: The Buddhist temple built out of 1.5 million recycled bottles.  A group of monks in Thailand decided to create the temple to try and combat the litter problem and encourage people to recycle.

4. Home made from airplane parts, New York: This unique home is made from recycled airplane parts and includes features such as a circular ascending staircase and stacked vertical columns that are designed to imitate the sensation of taking flight.

5. Starbucks made from shipping containers, Washington: This funky little drive thru certainly demonstrates thinking out of the box and is made from the end of life shipping containers.

6. Cardboard home, Netherlands: With its main material being cardboard, these creative homes are designed to last around 50 years and can be assembled in just one day.

7. Water tank home, New York: Constructed from two 3,000 liter water tanks and be towed by a car, bike or even boat apparently!  Although this funky little home is clever, it is not quite ready for the market and is still in its design stages.

8.  Realm of Design manufacturing facility, Nevada: This architectural beauty is made from recycled glass and renewable materials.  In particular, the outside stones of the building are made from more than 500,000 beer bottles.

9. Home made from stonecycling bricks, Netherlands: On the list again, the Netherlands have also created a new type of building blocks that are set to be used across the country in the near future.  These bricks are made of waste from ceramics, glass, insulation and clay, so are very environmentally friendly.

10.  Housing complex made from shipping containers, Mumbai: Currently only a proposal, but CRG Architects have come up with a design that utilizes shipping containers to use to build a massive housing complex that could house up to 5,000 people.

Whatever these homes look like, if they are doing positive things for the environment then they should be supported entirely.  Not only do these homes present us with a unique way of living, but also show a dedication to protecting ourselves and our environment.  So if you want to show your support then why not ditch the traditional home and take on one of these beauties for a real change in life.
