Healthcare Is Advancing With the Help of AI and Robotics

Healthcare advancements are an important part of prolonging our lives and maintaining a healthy society.  Scientists and researchers worldwide are constantly searching for the next cure for some debilitating disease, or finding new ways to diagnose patients, and most of this is only made possible with the help of new healthcare technologies that are being introduced to the market. Three of the areas that will transform the healthcare completely over the next 50 years are human augmentation, social robots and the open AI Ecosystem.

Human augmentation involves using technology to enhance or improve on parts of the human body.  One company that has invested heavily in this area are Doppler Labs who have created Here One which are specially designed earplugs that have the ability to filter out background noises such as traffic or crowds and enhance the sounds that you want to hear such as a person speaking or music.

Google are also exploring into this field and are working on contact lenses for diabetes patients that can say that will measure blood sugar levels and body temperature allowing a more closely monitoring of the disease.  There are even ways in which to enhance and restore memory now that are being experimented currently by the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA).

Healthcare Is Advancing With the Help of AI and Robotics

The world of social robotics is also advancing at an extremely fast pace and has moved a long way since they were first introduced.  We now have the likes of Paro, which is a robotic therapeutic seal designed to help elderly patients with various conditions ranging from stress to dementia.  Although this is one of the more simple style robots, it still demonstrates how effective they can be.

Other more advanced robotics that will be coming our way shortly include Jibo, which is set to be the world’s first social robot to be introduced to the public.  Jibo has been designed to act almost as a personal assistant to make our lives that little bit easier and help us to remember those all important things we need to do.  It is similar to that of Amazon’s Echo, but a little more advanced.

Finally, the world of the open AI ecosystem is the third element that will have a massive impact on human healthcare over the next 50 years.  The open AI ecosystem is basically what connects all our mobile devices and computers and large amounts of data to enhance productivity and potentially your health.  Cellscope have just designed a digital otoscope that will connect to a smartphone allowing user to take a digital picture of inside your child’s ear to immediately send to a healthcare professional for medical advice. AliveCor Kardia is a similar application that is used for atrial fibrillation.

All of these medical advancing technologies will have a massive impact on the healthcare over the next few years.  Having the ability to diagnose patients remotely would mean huge benefits to us all.  Soon, we may be able to do away with having to visit the doctor altogether and get instantly diagnosed within the comfort of our own homes.
