Learn How To Banish Negativity In Your Brain

Negative thoughts are no good for anyone, but can be very hard to dispel unless we know how.  If we do something wrong and constantly blame ourselves for it and say that we are stupid, then soon our brain will come to believe it.  Well, scientists may have just discovered a way to help out with that as studies have been carried out that show you actually can banish negative thoughts from your mind, and the whole process is called cognitive reappraisal.

Cognitive reappraisal is a way in which you can train yourself to recognize and reinterpret a negative situation and either turn it into a positive one or at least lessen the severity of the negativity.   Negative thoughts stay much more clearly in our mind than positive ones, so it is important to learn different techniques for dealing with them to allow you to be happier and more positive.

One method that works for many people is to put in writing what they are feeling negative about and what triggered the negative thinking.  Doing this can often put things into perspective and help loosen the load.  A second technique that could be used is to change your negative thought into a question and answer it.  In doing this, you will find yourself proving the negativity to be wrong as negative thoughts are never based on reality.

Another method that may help banish the negativity is by pretending to be a close friend and imagine what you would say to them if they felt as you were.  Being humans, we are our own worst enemy, so by looking at things from another’s perspective gives us a clearer picture of reality.  You could also try and blow things out of perspective completely to show how ‘not so bad’ your situation actually is.

If you feel that these particular techniques are not working for you and you are still feeling the big bad wolf, then distract yourself and do something different to take your mind off it.  Dwelling on a problem or negative thoughts for hours on end will not do anyone any favors.  Channel that negativity into something more positive and productive and you will soon feel yourself feeling much better.  And lastly, just persevere.

If one method doesn’t work, try another, switch back to the first, mix it up.  At the end of the day, it is all about you and your health and how you make things better in your life.  By banishing negativity and promoting positivity you are lowering your chance of depression and stress, improving your physical and psychological wellbeing and potentially prolonging your life, so give it a go and see what a difference it can make.
