As of today the connection between the robots and us is very limited. However, the advent of robots in the human life is becoming rather beneficial as the artificial intelligence is progressing. While the connection between the robots and humans is very limited, and as the technology advances, the role of robots in our lives is increasing as the technology advances. A noticeable change that happens to occur with the rise of robots is the loss of jobs. The technology has always been replacing people in the monotonous jobs with advanced machinery – robots. Nevertheless, an average person needs a healthcare, retirement plans and vacations — robots don’t. It is the case that the robots can replace more than 50% of jobs in today’s market.
According to the Alternative Daily, the robots could be calamitous at times. The 2016 report on the Global Catastrophic Risks include the emerging risks with the improvement in the AI and robotic technology. The report advises that there should be more ground work done to establish a perfect environment and adaptive risk regulation. We might be living in a world that is ruled by the robots by 2080 with super-efficient AI technology.
With the rise in AI, there might be robots, dealing with high-end weaponry with no control by humans. The 2016 World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland, called for regulations to stop the creation of robots as weapons as there may be powerful robots in the battlefield programmed with weapons that humans have no control over. Additionally, the Alternative Daily mentioned that “Physicist Stephen Hawking, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, engineer Elon Musk, among other notables, signed an open letter from robotics and AI researchers last year expressing concerns about autonomous weapons.”
No matter how advanced the AI becomes or how intelligent the robots get, there will always be individual decisions that are to be made only by humans. A classic paradigm is the driverless vehicles. The whole truck driver jobs will be in trouble when the technology of the driverless cars becomes more common. It is expected that these driverless cars become a norm in less than ten years.
In the end, the technology is the means for the man to fulfill all his needs and get ahead in life. One should always remember that robots are for human, and humans are not for robots. Technology is leaving a permanent mark on us, both good and bad. Let us hope that the technology happens to make our lives easier rather making it challenging.
