Space exploration has been a very exciting subject right from the very beginning, and with the advancement of technology going the way it is, astronomers are even closer to getting a glimpse of the universe and beyond as it has never been seen before.
Backed by NASA, the new telescope has been the work of many researchers from across the globe for nearly 20 years now and is hopeful to get its big debut launch in 2018. Following on from the Hubble Telescope, it has a lot to live up to. But, by using the latest infrared technology, the James Webb Telescope will be able to see and deliver more views of the universe than any of its predecessors ever could.
Although the total life cost of the telescope is estimated to be over $8 billion, astronomers are confident it is a small price to pay for what we will be able to achieve from this experience. Unlike the Hubble, the James Webb Telescope will not be able to be serviced and maintained once in orbit, so getting it right is crucial.
Building a gigantic telescope is not just about being able to get a nice view of the universe around us, it is about learning all that we can from what is out there without the risk of harming any humans. Many of the world’s greatest discoveries have only been made possible through space exploration, including the internet.
How beneficial the James Webb Telescope will remain to be confirmed until 2018, so we will have to wait and see if NASA can once again deliver the unimaginable.
