All over the globe we are seeing a rise in countries battling against climate change and ways to reduce its devastating effects. Not too long ago an initiative emerged, launched by Bill Gates that’s intention is to develop new, clean energy sources that are readily available to people of all budgets.
The initiative, called Mission Innovation, is an on a global scale and was announced back in November 2015. It has 20 founder member countries including Australia, Canada, Germany, India, Norway, the United States of America and the United Kingdom. As well as these 20 countries being responsible for 75% of the world’s CO2 emissions from electricity, they also fund the investments of more than 80% of the world’s clean energy efforts.
Creating clean energy is big business at the moment, and the Department of Energy alone increased their research budget by almost $300 million this year. Along with assistance from the government, private investors are also getting involved with the fight in stopping climate change and that is where the Breakthrough of Energy Coalition comes in. This consists of several private investors who are dedicated to this great cause and is again headed by Bill Gates, who himself has invested $2 billion into this project.
The Breakthrough of Energy Coalition aims to invest and support in companies that have the ability to turn current small inventions into worldwide clean energy operations using the best staff that money can buy. They will also form valuable partnerships with other like-minded organizations to produce the best results (e.g. The University of California).
By focusing not only on introducing new inventions, but also advancing the current technology we are expanding the possibility of finding a solution that will rid climate change for good. Projections are already looking very healthy for clean energy, and with the International Energy Agency predicting that by 2020 as the world we be in a much better position than we are now, there is hope for us all yet in overcoming climate change worldwide!
