Could These Funky Inventions be the Tools to Save the Planet?

Inventors come up with new ideas and new solutions to problems every single day. Not all inventions are worth the time and effort people put in, but there are a few that could really make a difference to the world if introduced commercially. Keep reading for some our most favorite inventions that could one day save the planet:

1.  Pollinating drones:  Many pollinating insects are at risk of extinction. So, experts devised drone that could take the place of them to ensure that the many crops that rely on pollination are not at risk. These drones carry pollen from one plant to another, just like a small insect would.

2.  The plane that only emits water vapor:  This small plane is big enough to carry four people including the pilot and is simple enough that it runs on hydrogen and oxygen aided by a battery, but emits only water. The idea is to eventually have emission free air taxis that allow easy travel from one city to another.

3.  Sieve that transforms ocean water into drinking water:  Researchers in the UK have developed a graphene sieve that can filter out the saltiness of the ocean and transform it into safe, clean, drinkable water. According to statistics, it’s estimated that around 14% of the world’s population will be left without any access to water in less than a decade if action isn’t taken. So, this could literally be a lifesaver for millions.

4.  Biodegradable bullets:  The bullets that are most commonly used in weapon across the world are not very environmentally friendly. And while that may not be the first thing on one’s mind in the midst of a battle, it is something we should and are now considering across the globe. The US Department of Defense has just recently put a request in for new ammunition that contains seeds to produce food for various animals.

5.  A non-polluting plastic:  Indonesian entrepreneur Kevin Kumala and partner launched Avani Eco in 2014, which is a company that produces as much as four tons of cassava-plastic products every day. The packaging is cheap, the main ingredient is a common vegetable found across much of Indonesia, and best of all it will dissolve.
