New Monster Mars Rover Looks a Little Scary

Mars is no ordinary terrain, so it’s fair to say that no ordinary vehicle would suffice while traveling around up there, but this new Mars rover looks a little scary if you ask me. It’s only a concept design for the moment, but could one day be used in transporting astronauts across the Red Planet and beyond.

Originally built for the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, the rover will provide an educational and inspiring platform for all to enjoy while on display in Cape Canaveral, Florida as part of the Summer of Mars program. “As with all ‘secret missions’, we are limited at this point as to what we can reveal about it,” wrote NASA. “We will share the exciting updates and information very soon.”

The concept rover that has everyone excited was designed by Marc Parker of Parker Brothers Concepts. It’s 23 feet (7 meters) in length, 13 feet (4 meters) wide, and 11 feet (3.3 meters) in height. It also weighs in at a whopping 5,000 lbs (2,268 kilograms). A rover is a mean machine, and although it’s part of the Astronaut Training Experience attraction at the Visitor Center Complex for the moment, it will be hitting the open road later in the year.

On the Visitor Complex’s Summer of Mars website it read, “Check back here for cities and dates of the rover’s East Coast tour this summer.” So if you are in the area this summer keep your eyes peeled for the concept rover that could one day take our budding astronauts to Mars.
