Robots are in offices. They’re in hotels. They can even be found at restaurants. And now, it seems they are spreading out to the realms of Hollywood now too. Introducing Benjamin – the script-writing artificial intelligence. Last year Benjamin produced his debut short movie and this year he’s back to give it another shot.
The new movie stars ex-Baywatch hunk David Hasselhoff and is directed by Oscar Sharp. Others featuring in the short piece include Flesh and Bone’s Sarah Hay, The Walking Dead’s Thomas Payne, and Tom Guinee. It’s a sci-fi called ‘It’s No Game’ that takes viewers on a journey to an alternate reality where the script has been written entirely by artificial intelligence. Producers used nanobot technology in which to channel the thoughts and mannerisms of the AI writers to the human actors.
Ross Goodwin is the man responsible for creating Benjamin and in order to produce a script the AI needed to be trained using six different models including studying lines from classic movies as well as hit TV series such as Baywatch and Knight Rider. Last time Benjamin was fed raw scripts. So to ensure there were no strange stage directions or character names popping up from Sunspring (last year’s movie) Goodwin only fed the AI subtitle files. So, if you have some spare time on your hands why not check out Benjamin’s masterpieces and see just how talented this AI is.
