Well it searches for everything else with ease, so why not jobs too? Google just recently announced its intentions to launch a jobs search engine in the U.S. that will focus on a variety of jobs with a variety of salaries and skills required. The job search engine is called “Google for Jobs” and it was announced by Google CEO, Sundar Pichai at Google’s recent developer conference I/O.
“46% of U.S. employers say they face talent shortages and have issues filling open job positions,” confirmed Pichai. “While job seekers may be looking for openings right next door – there’s a big disconnect here… We want to better connect employers and job seekers through a new initiative, Google for Jobs.”
In just a few weeks, Google’s search engine will change in such a way that it will recognize when U.S. users are searching for jobs via Google Search and they will have highlighted jobs appear that match their query. Initially, the search will be linked to sites including Careerbuilder Monster, LinkedIn, Glassdoor, Facebook. There will also be various tools available too to help the user in their job search such as filters that allow them to search by title, date, or location among other things.
What makes this service quite different to others is how it uses machine learning to understand how jobs relate to one another and are able to bunch them together. Pichai also mentioned there may be a one-click apply feature to speed things up but no further details have been relapsed as to how this will work. He then added, “I’m personally enthusiastic about this initiative because it addresses an important need and taps our core capabilities as a company from searching and organizing information to A.I. and machine learning.” The intention is to roll the search engine out to U.S. users over the next few weeks, with the rest of the world following at some point after that.
