The Apple Watch 2 is hot right now, and even though it’s much better than the original model, it’s still far from perfect. However, the Apple Watch 3 is rumored to be even better, so if you haven’t yet got your hands on an Apple Watch, it may be worth waiting just a little longer. Some of Apple’s patents look so futuristic that they may never come to fruition, but there are others that we may be seeing in products like the Apple Watch very soon. - The Round Apple Watch: The first two models have been square, but rumor has it the Apple Watch 3 could be more of a circular design. Their most recent patent submitted in regards to design refers to “an electronic device having a display with curved edges.”
- Self-tightening Straps: Looking to follow in a similar fashion to Marty McFly’s self-lacing trainers, Apple has a filed a patent for a self-tightening watch strap to ensure you get the perfect fit. According to the patent, the strap would also feature on-screen control that would allow you to manually contract or relax the fit as well as create a number of different presets.
- Easier Charging: This granted Apple patent allows a physical charging connection to be built into the strap clasps of the Watch.
- Gesture Controls: How cool would it be to control your Apple Watch by simply moving your wrist and fingers? Well, that could soon be a possibility with thanks to this Apple patent. It covers anything from adjusting the volume on your music to scrolling up and down menus. Integrated sensors will monitor your movements to ensure you always get the right response each time. You can even answer or reject calls by opening and close your hand.
- Smart Straps: As well as self-tightening straps, Apple has also filed numerous patents for smart straps, including ones that could incorporate additional screens. This would allow the user to receive notifications while keeping their main watch face free for doing other things. Some of the smart straps could even allow you to change its color by incorporating liquid crystal fluid in the strap. With this, you could assign different colors to different things. Such as red for an incoming call, purple for a text, or green for a reminder.
- Modular Smart Straps: This Apple patent focuses on smart links, and according to the patent, “The electronic components included in the modular functional band links may be any electronic component associated with any kind of functionality.” This could include adding bigger speakers, a camera module, battery boosters, or blood pressure sensors.
- In-Built Camera: Apple’s patents here include a Watch with an inbuilt camera that will allow users to hold video calls directly from their wrist. One of the patents says the camera “can be disposed on the front surface of face member to capture images of the user.
