Trusted Contacts is a free app that’s taking safety seriously. This app uses location tracking to let people know exactly where you are during an emergency. It’s quick to download and easy to use and will give you that extra peace of mind if you ever are in a sticky situation. For those of you that can remember it, it’s running on a similar theme to iOS’s Find My Friend that was discontinued along with Latitude in 2013.
The app lets you add those people that you want to share your location with, either via your GPS location or your online presence. If an emergency were to happen then friends and family could request your status, and you can then respond to let them know where you are and if you’re OK. If no response is received from you for 5 minutes, the contact will automatically be sent your current or last location (if offline).
Another great feature of the app is that you can share your commute with a friend and they can actually see that you’ve made it home or to work safely. But, there is one major downfall with the app. Although it’s designed to keep you safe, it also opens up the window for nosey friends, spouses, or children. So just remember, at the end of the day, it is a tracking device, so if you don’t want every Tom, Dick, and Harry knowing your whereabouts, this may not be the app for you.
