It’s the end of an era for Audi in regards to the World Endurance Championship as it hangs up its turbo and heads on over to the Formula E racing series where it will battle it out against others in a different class of racing. For some, this move comes as no real surprise as this is the direction that all auto manufacturers will head eventually, but for others, it is simply a time of sadness and disappointment as one of all time favorites leaves the race.
But, after 18 solid years and 13 wins at the 24 hour Le Mans it’s finally time for Audi to try it’s luck at something else (i.e. Formula E). Rupert Stadler, Audi’s management board chairman said, “We’re going to contest the race for the future on electric power. As our production cars are becoming increasingly electric, our motorsport cars, as Audi’s technological spearheads, have to be even more so.” Never one to go unmissed, I’m sure Audi will soon be making headlines over n Formula E just as it has in the WEC over the past 18 years.
