Audi Plans to Ramp Up Production of the Q5 in New Mexican Factory

Audi has just announced the opening of its new plant near Puebla in Mexico where it will begin to build the new Q5 SUV that will be marketed and sold globally.  The Mexican factory will be Audi’s first in the America’s and the car giant is expecting to produce 150,000 units per year at full capacity.

This move will not only mean good times ahead for Audi, but also the 4,200 local workers that have now been employed by them.  The factory has been nicknamed the Smart Factory by Audi and cost over $1 billion to build the 988 acre site over a period of three and a half years.

Rupert Stadler, Audi chairman, stated, “The plant in Mexico is a milestone in the history of our company and an important step in our internationalisation.  It is one of the most modern factories on the American continent.  With this facility, we have established an important site for the export of our automobiles to customers all over the world.”

Next to the Mexico based Audi factory seven different parts and logistics providers have set up businesses making the whole supply chain much easier to manage.  There are also a total of 100 companies that supply Audi Q5 parts throughout the whole of Mexico.  If Audi can achieve the same success it did with the first generation Q5 and build more than 1.6 million of them, they will soon recoup the money spent on building their new, swanky factory.
