The LAGI 2016 Competition Brings Many More Green Energy Ideas Our Way

The LAGI competition is one that is run by the land art generator initiative, and its main aim is to invite teams to create new ways to harvest free energy and convert it into drinkable water, but while making the design one of beauty that can be admired.  This year’s contest saw some teams combining renewable energy techniques such as the wind, wave, and solar to get the best from each of them.

California has some tough goals to meet in terms of its clean energy infrastructure and by introducing the LAGI competition, raises awareness and gets others involved in helping to achieve the end results.  It’s run every two years and this year’s theme was named Powering Places.  The design site itself was based on the coastal waters surrounding the Santa Monica Pier, California and aims to help tackle the issues of sustainability.

The first prize winners bagged a prize of $15,000 and this year that went to Regatta H2O: Familiar Form, Chameleon Infrastructure by Christopher Sioberg and Rvo Saito.  Second prize still walks away worth a $4,000 prize, and that went to Cetacea by Keegan Oneal, Sean Link, Caitlin Vanhauer, and Colin Poranski.

All of the entries to the LAGI 2016 competition show how establishments are taking a positive and proactive approach and also how individuals are happy to embrace the challenge of creating sustainable renewable energy sources and make the world a better place for us all.
