Porsche has just announced their new plans for developing an ultra-fast charging facility that works not only on its Mission E, but will also be compatible with Audi’s Quattro e-tron, VW’s latest model unveiled in Paris last month, and even Tesla vehicles. Customers will be able to charge their electric vehicles efficiently and within the comfort of their own home (well, garage at least).
Porsche has said that the 800V charging unit will be able to charge the Mission E to around 80 percent in just 15 minutes, which is pretty impressive. The company is hoping to have the ultra-fast charging systems available for purchase around the same time as the Mission E and VW’s next EV are due to be launched, which is just before the end of the decade. They are also hoping to work with more car manufacturers to allow even greater accessibility across the whole motoring industry.
So, we may have to wait a little while longer, but it should be worth it, even for those non-Porsche owners. Porsche CEO, Oliver Blume says, “We are in contact with other manufacturers and suppliers around the world to build a fast-charging network. Everybody has the same need. It sounds easy but getting the details agreed is hard. We already have the clear technical concept. It can even work with Teslas, with an adapter.” Although Tesla already has their own fast-charging systems available, Porsche is aiming for a unit that is twice as fast.
