In case you are unaware, 3DPrinterOS is the world’s first operating system for 3D printers. Its cloud-based system allows users with standard 3D printers to hook up to the network where they can search or upload their 3D designs and store them securely. You can also manage your print queue and print to multiple, different connected devices, provided you have the correct authorization.
Now, the 3DPrinterOS platform has got even better with its integration with the CAD system. Having spent time analyzing the workflow typically done by engineers and designers, they found there were often miscommunications and delays with ad-hoc 3D file transfers due to the frequency this was done. Usually data is exchanged via email or file shares between designer and designer or designer and client, and this is what is normally causing the delay or errors to occur.
By developing integrated solutions involving CAD the company have taken out some of the legwork of uploading and transferring files. Now, you can directly submit work from the CAD system to the 3DPrinterOS cloud. This has now been set up and in place for Siemens, Dassault Systemes, Autodesk and Onshape design tools. One the image has been designed and uploaded; the user can then proceed to print it from the relevant machine.
The introduction of this new feature will ultimately speed up the workflow of 3D printing as there will be fewer steps involved in designing and printing the product. It is also bringing the 3D printer one step closer to being the next ‘must-have’ item within everyone’s homes. As more and more people realize the benefits of 3D printing and how simple the process is becoming there will be an influx of customers in this field. Maybe in ten years time, there will be no stores as we know them today in which to buy tangible products, only those which see the raw materials for us to make them.
