Mobile Gaming Just Stepped Up A Notch With $10 Billion Supercell Sale

Supercell is a mobile game development company based in Finland and is the creators of four very popular mobile games: Hay Day, Clash of Clans, Boom Beach, and Clash Royale. The company was founded not too long ago in 2010 and has just been bought by Chinese gaming company, Tencent in a whopping $10 billion sale.

This clearly shows just how big business the mobile gaming industry is, and with such a significant investment, Tencent certainly believes it is only going to get better. Having paid over $8.5 billion for 84 percent of Supercell, this tops the Minecraft sale of 2014 ($2.5 billion by Microsoft) and Oculus sale of 2014 ($2 billion by Facebook) and the YouTube sale of 2006 ($1.65 billion by Google) put together!

With Tencent already being the world’s largest game company, the purchase of Supercell is just adding to their already pretty impressive portfolio. The only other mobile gaming company that comes close to these guys is King, but they do not have the variety to offer that Tencent does, and pretty much all of their successful games are based upon Candy Crush Saga.

The mobile gaming industry is set to boom. With more and more people having access to smartphones and people are more than happy to download and play free games, this is a business that can not fail. Supercell figures state that it has 100 million daily players from their four games alone. In just two years, the mobile gaming market is expected to be worth $45 billion, with Asia having more than a 50 percent share in this industry.

Although it looks like mobile gaming will be taking the biggest leaps in the upcoming years, it is not the only technology sector that will grow. Digi-Capital predicts that PC and offline gaming will also see an increase in sales in the future, just not quite as fast as mobile gaming.
