Renewable energy is an unavoidable part of our future. Traditional utility companies are already beginning to feel the loss in revenue and demand. Part of the loss of business is due to the rising energy costs, not just the up and coming renewable energy options. Green energy, however, can also be an expensive endeavor. It has taken many years for these possibilities to become a reality for daily energy use on a large scale. While many people think about the residential use of solar and wind power, there are others considering the market for commercial power needs. The idea is to secure contracts by offering locked in prices to companies for their power needs.
SunPower and First Solar are leading the way in this endeavor. SunPower has secured Apple as one of its contracts and has been taking care of its needs both locally and globally. Residential power needs will, of course, be a large source of revenue once the majority of the population switches to green energy, however, the global power needs of a large and prestigious company allow for substantial and ongoing revenue. Solar and wind power are looked at by many as an environmental contribution. There are, however, monetary responsibilities concerned with providing this resource. The companies behind solar and wind energy would like to have their products well-funded, enough to also make a profit.
The positive note to all of this is that these companies are trying to make a profit while providing a quality resource to the public. For now, the costs of running on solar power is still fairly high. These contracts with companies like Apple will allow for enough income growth to keep the option open for others. There must be proper funding of materials and maintenance to provide ample amounts of solar and wind power. Investors would do well to research the different opportunities while the market is still new for this renewable energy. More renewable power options must take place for a variety of reasons, making it likely that this type of investment will be profitable at some point.
