Uber driving exploits have become a newsworthy topic, recently. Drivers for the company have had many noticeable complications. There have been assault situations and even protests against the service. The assaults have been known to be ignored by the company, and so have many complaints. It is concerning to think that Uber is a safe transportation option after some of the news surrounding it.
The public protests against Uber originated France. These protests were put into place because of the recent business deal that Uber entered into in the land of Saudi Arabia. The fact is, women are not allowed to drive in this country. The following $3.5 billion deal is thought, by some, to be insensitive to the worldwide terrorist issues. Uber seems to be unconcerned about gaining profit by exploitation of oppressed women. Some may also simply say it is a way to fill a need in the country. Their thinking me revolve around the fact that women still need to travel places. However, it may also leave them open to foul play, if Uber does not find a way to raise its safety measures.
Billions of dollars are the goal with the thought of expanding to China. It is not clear how each different country will receive the services of Uber. Public transportation is not a new concept. However, Uber seems to be controversial in its business ethics. The protests in France turned into full riots, Making the news and permanently scarring Ubers reputation, these protests brought to light a very important reality. Uber does not seem to place much of a moral necessity on its business undertakings. Business as usual after possible assaults can only mean trouble for the future of Uber. The consensus is that Uber places a high level of revenue in front of what is right and wrong. Perhaps the company will have to learn the hard way that a company needs a good public image and should care about its customers.
