Tesla has had a significant effect on the car world and anything about the firm seems to appear on blogs and news sites. The company is happy with this and hope it continues this way as they are and take to the Nikola One which is a Class 8 hybrid electric truck concept.
In a change from the fully electric passenger car, this has a 400kW generator that the company claims can allow the vehicle to run on natural gas, diesel or gas. Power is sent from the generator to a 320kWh lithium-ion battery, and this is able to energize a total of six in-wheel motors, with every one of them capable of producing 335 hp meaning that there is a total output of 2,000 hp. Meritor is the suppliers of the all-wheel drive system and the vehicle also has three axles all with independent suspension.

There is an autonomous fleet convoy function which means that the driver is able to lead a convoy of 5 tractor trailers, but this will only become a reality once regulators have passed the laws that will allow it to be legal to carry out this on-road operation. Nikola Motors have said that they think that operating costs will be between 20 and 30 cents per mile which are roughly half what it costs to run an existing diesel Class 8 truck.
Each truck will cost £375,000 and $1,500 will be accepted as a refundable reservation. Trucks should be on the road in under four years.
