If you’ve ever dreamed of being an astronaut, you may be about to get your wish with thanks to a whole heap of software NASA has just released to the public, free of charge! These guys aren’t known for giving away something for anything, so why not make the most of it.
Steve Jurczyk is the associate administrator for NASA’s Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD) and he advised the company’s 2017-2018 software catalog has now been released and includes everything from health and medicine, to data and image processing, to propulsion, to drones, and is all available completely for of charge, without any copyright or royalty fees to pay either. He stated, “The software catalog is our way of supporting the innovation economy by granting access tools used by today’s top aerospace professionals to entrepreneurs, small businesses, academia, and industry. Access to these software codes has the potential to generate tangible benefits that create American jobs, earn revenue, and save lives.”
The catalog is split into 15 different categories including business systems and aeronautics. But if you’re not sure what you’re looking for specifically there’s always a list of the top 20 most requested pieces of software you can have a browse through. You might not think there’s anything relevant to you in the catalog, but that might not be the case. There is software that can help you build your own autonomous system or more that will help you monitor climate change.
