Elon Musk and Tesla are used to getting awarded and recognized for various things to do with the electric vehicle market, but this time the company is being praised from a different angle. It appears that the Tesla Model 3 could soon become the “most American made car” in production today, with 95% of its parts being manufactured in the US.
What percentage of the Model 3 is American is calculated based on the number of parts that were made in the US, how much labor was carried out in the US, and how much of the research and development was completed in the US. According to the study completed at the Kogod School of Business at American University in Washington, D.C., the most so called American cars are currently the Chevrolet Traverse, the Buick Enclave, and the GMC Acadia, all of which are classed as being 90% American.
But, as soon as Tesla’s 2170 battery cells are added to the vehicles, they will become 95% American, and more American than any other vehicle out there. With raw materials now looking to be sought from the US as well, Tesla seem to have this in the bag, saving further on logistics what might be lost on parts manufacturing. Tesla has always been one for keeping in the American way, and with Donald Trump also wanting to support fellow citizens and bring back jobs to America it looks as though they will have a lot of support along the way.
Its already been confirmed that Musk has joined President Trump’s Strategic and Policy Forum, so the two look like they will be seeing more of each other in the near future. And, the president’s upcoming administration is getting ready to cut some rules for fuel consumption that would have spurred on many a carmaker to jump on the electric vehicle bandwagon. So, this will certainly help Tesla in its electric transport acceleration mission. Also, if Tesla can just show Trump how making electric vehicles in the US will be a major job creator, Trump will want to ensure those fuel consumption goals go ahead and start a boom in the need for EV’s.
