The world is changing, there’s no denying it and no stopping it. Technology is advancing at a phenomenal rate, and robotics are on our doorstep and in our lives now more than they ever have been, and retail is no different.
Amazon Go is an innovative new way of shopping that will be opened to the public to experience early 2017. With Amazon Go, no longer will you need to worry about waiting in a long line, or even having any money in your pocket. The way it works is by customers choosing what they like from the shelves while a virtual cart keeps track of everything. Once the customer has all the items they need they simply leave the store with their goods. Their Amazon account is charged shortly after and a receipt is sent. This new way of shopping cuts down customer wait times no end.
But, is that what customers want? It may be a fast, in and out a system, but to have no human interaction kind of takes some of the fun away doesn’t it? French store, Monoprix has a similar system where they too allow customers to shop and leave simply. In their stores, customers do their shopping then hand their shopping cart to a human cashier who totals the items and arranges delivery, leaving the customer to carry on the rest of their day without the worry of carrying lots of shopping around. You also get that personal touch too and a little human interaction which is never a bad thing. It’s clear that they way we’re able to shop is changing, but which would you prefer?
