An iPhone 7 or 7 Plus may look great when it’s intact, but we hear more and more about people encountering broken screens with theses particular phones. So much so that Apple don’t even charge that much to fix it (surprisingly). It’s very annoying when you break your iPhone screen. Sometimes you may still be able to use it, but you deep down you know you need to do something about it, the question is, what? Well, here are your options:
1 – Get Apple to repair it. With AppleCare+ a broken screen will set you back around $29, but the repair cover costs $129, to begin with, and will only cover the device’s screen twice in its lifetime. If you don’t have the AppleCare+ package, a broken screen will cost you $129 for an iPhone 7 screen and $149 for an iPhone 7 Plus screen. So, it’s not the end of the world.
2 – Live with it. If you’re due to change your phone soon anyway and it still works, then it may be worth just putting up with a broken screen for now. But just remind yourself to be more careful with the next one.
Here’s a few tip on what to do (and not do) if you find yourself with a cracked iPhone 7 or 7 Plus screen and decide to repair it:
- Ask Apple nicely to repair your phone and you never know, they may just do it for free. If it is just a hairline crack, then it could be down to a manufacturing defect in which case the company is happy to repair it for you.
- Get it done ASAP. The longer you leave your cracked screen, the worse it will become so get it done as soon as you notice it. Plus, the warranty only lasts for a limited time, so if you are trying to get it done for free, time is of the essence!
- Unlock your phone. You need to make sure the tech guys can get in to repair it, so ensure it’s unlocked and turn off Find My iPhone.
- Backup your device.
- Get it fixed at a reputable Apple repair shop. There’s no point in going to a third party repair shop as Apple charge a reasonable amount to fix it anyway.
