With all the technology that is advancing and the different AI’s that have been designed and integrated into the workplace, many people are beginning to feel a little worried. If everything becomes automated, what will happen to people’s jobs? How will they survive? What will they do all day? These questions are on the lips of millions of people all over the world and Elon Musk, Tesla CEO, thinks the answer to it all could lie in the form of a universal income.
On the plus side, people will have more time to enjoy life, right? With many factory jobs already taken over by robots and various creative roles are now at risk too, is Musk right and is a universal income inevitable with the way things are heading? But, it may not be as bad as it sounds if you think about it. If the aim is that everyone has enough to survive without the need to work, there would be a significant proportion of people better off and homelessness and poverty would certainly be much less of an issue.
But, whether a universal income would come to fruition remains to be seen. Although they are getting more popular and beginning to take over more and more roles, there is still a long way to go before robots can cover absolutely everything. So, it may be a while yet before you can kick back and relax and let the robots do all the work, but just be ready for them as they are approaching fast.
